Take care of you.
About My Clients
The clients that I find to be a good match for my therapeutic approach are usually individuals who exhibit a strong desire for personal growth and transformation. Oftentimes, they find themselves in a state of feeling stagnant or confined due to various circumstances in their lives. These can range from academic or professional challenges, relationship issues, marital difficulties, and even includes the complexities of parenthood.
Looking for an impartial source of guidance, these clients seek to navigate their challenges with a supportive and non-judgmental ally. They are keen on exploring alternative viewpoints and adopting healthier patterns of behavior and thought. Many of the individuals I work with have encountered significant trauma or are experiencing profound grief. They are in search of effective strategies to handle and work through their intense emotional experiences.
My Approach
Starting therapy can be a bit daunting and uncomfortable at first, and that’s completely normal! Building a strong connection with your therapist plays a crucial role in how beneficial your therapy journey will be. It’s essential to remember that not every therapist is the right match for every individual. Just like in forming friendships, finding the right therapist may take some time and exploration, and that’s perfectly okay. I encourage everyone to continue searching until they discover the therapist with whom they feel the most at ease and connected.
If you are wondering what sessions look like or what you need to do to prepare, they typically go something like this: we meet via a video platform and start wherever you are comfortable. Some individuals dive right in and some people need some guidance through me asking specific questions.
I take a person-centered approach. In each session I like to meet my clients wherever they are at. We are always working towards an overarching goal in therapy, but I understand that everyone’s stressors can vary from day to day and week to week. Therapy isn’t always a straight line. Sometimes we have to veer off course and face the challenges that are in the here and now.
I don’t typically assign “homework” for clients between sessions; rather I suggest clients reflect on the themes and insights we discussed during our session. If we discuss various coping skills or solution based strategies, I encourage clients to give them a try.
There will be times when we discuss something for you to try between sessions and you won’t be able to get to it because life happens. I want you to know that there is no pressure. We will re-strategize or put it on a shelf for the next time you might need it.
